Crossing the River

Version: 0.5.12

Description: As I was unable to figure out quite how to explain this in a way that made perfect sense, I managed to get a video clip of what happened. I replicated this several times before searching to find something that would record this so that I could let you see what went on. Quality on the video is absolutely horrible, I know, but on the bright side, if I ever do get some software to record these things, I know where not to shop, right?
Here is the situation. I am not much of a wasd person, I prefer the click-the-mouse-and-get-there method, which is what I tend to use most of the time, unless dodging rocks, as I usually do in the particular area. Well, this time, I clicked across the river, and when I went away from it, I decided to see where it thought it was going. Well...you see the result, we walk over to the waterfall, flip open our communicator and say "Beam me over, Scotty."

View My Video

Usually, with any bug report, I try to put in expected result, actual result and suggestions, but this time....well, I have the video and really no idea what to suggest on how to fix it.

That is completely and utterly bizarre! I have GOT to replicate this.

Thanks for taking the time to record and upload this. You're awesome.

I was poking around on this bug after you left and could not get it to replicate. I thought that maybe you moving the stone node had done something to fix the problem. Off i went to make some fencing to test this idea and placing one post in the exact spot the node was caused the bug to reappear. Removing it removes the bug. Did a few tests elsewhere with fencing to mimic the situation there and got bupkis. So it seams that there is someting specific with that spot that i cant replicate anywhere else.

On a side note, the bug seems to exist because of the pathing system. I have never seen it make a diagonal move....EVER. Some of my testin was on that fact. A four post box with the diagonals open can be moved around but the pathing system will give me the finger and not move. Even on larger areas where the only way out is a diagonal, the game will not path out of it. That may be a factor in this bug.

Yep, you are correct in that pathing is NSEW only.

Also, the pathing was getting weird due to the placement of the stone node (and later your post) blocking what should be the only egress from that location when using click to move pathing. Somehow, the pathing system is wrapping on itself (I assume) as the pathing check only uses a subset region of the larger world map to calculate its pathways.

This is such a cool bug. :)

Just found out, it also triggers if another character is standing in that particular spot. lol

Ok, so more poking at this one. I am hoping that the more info you have, the easier it will be to solve it completely. I sent the comment on the other bridge, but Rices and I were also able to replicate the effect in the mines. In the mines, though, it works both up and down. I attached a screenshot of the bugged mine location so you can poke at it and see how much more info it gives you. The main thing that throws me on this is that it seems to be specific to only certain areas. Tome tried in several other places and got nothing.
I am not a game programmer, so I am clueless on some things (forgive me) but is there some similarity between the mine and rivers that is unique only to them perhaps? It only seems to happen in relation to those 2 things? If it was right next to the lava river, I would think it was a river thing, but the mine location being so far away from the lava, I am thinking not.....

Chaos...? Confusion...? My work has gone well today

Pretty sure this has gotten things narrowed down. I select a subset of the map (60x60 tiles) surrounding the player to use in pathfinding. It looks like the coords are wrapping such that you can travel from the extreme N end to the opposing coordinate on the S end, and likewise E to W.

Awesome detective work! :)
